Home From Home

We are delighted to now be in a position to offer a respite facility, which has been a long-term dream ever since we started our charity back in 2006.

Our goal was to maintain the high level of support we already offer through our centre-based day services and outreach services, and extend that to a facility that offers a respite service in a homely environment with familiar staff where individual needs are consistently met.

With limited alternative respite opportunities in the area specifically for those with more severe and complex needs, and based upon parents’ concerns about these larger-scale, unfamiliar, inconsistent environments, we feel that we offer something more personal that will help not only the individuals themselves to have a break and relax, but in turn also enable their parents and carers to have some much needed rest time with confidence and assurance.

The house is a specifically adapted four bedroom detached bungalow with full wheelchair access, ceiling hoists, sensory corner, and facilities tailored to individuals’ needs. The garden has been developed with a large decking area and raised planters to enable a more sensory experience. We are based in the very heart of Ripponden village allowing direct access to the community and surrounding area.

In recognition of this new facility we are thrilled and honoured to have been awarded “Breakthrough of the Year” at the 2017 Community Spirit Awards:

“The panel were impressed by the courage and vision of this charity with this innovative development enabling them to expand their provision and meet the growing needs of both the individuals they support and their families, as they become older”.
