Job FAQs

  • Our 3 day service centres are located in central Halifax and our Respite bungalow is located in Southowram.

  • Our standard working hours are 8:45 am to 4:15 pm; however, we ask that staff remain flexible to work between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm to accommodate transport arrangements and any scheduled meetings.

  • Our Day Service is closed on all UK Bank Holidays and for a period over the Christmas season. Please note that our Christmas closure dates may vary each year.

    Our Respite Service is open on bank holidays, staff are paid an enhanced rate to work these shifts.

  • If you would like to visit before applying, you are welcome to make an appointment and we can show you around. Once applying, you will be invited for a more in depth visit.

  • Absolutely, some of our main perks are:

    • 26 days annual leave (pro-rata for part-time) + 8 Bank Holidays, increasing with service

    • Annual 1% increase in salary or leave after a successful year

    • Mileage reimbursed at £0.45/mile

  • Absolutely. We are proud to pay all of our employees above the national living wage, this is reflective of the expectations of the job. We align our salaries’ with the living wage foundation recommendations.

  • No formal qualifications or prior experience are required to join our team. What matters most is that you are caring, compassionate, and embody our core values. However, if you do not already hold an NVQ Level 2 or an equivalent qualification, we ask that you complete this with us after 12 months of successful service.

  • Once you have submitted your application, we may invite you for an informal visit to tour the centre, meet some of our Next Steppers, and gain a better understanding of the role. If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited to a formal interview.

    Following a successful interview, we may ask you to attend up to three voluntary trial days. This allows you to gain hands-on experience, assess whether the role is right for you, and enables us to determine if you are a good fit for the team.

    If you are successful at this stage, we will proceed with obtaining your references and completing an enhanced DBS check, after which the onboarding process can begin.

  • Whilst it is desirable that you hold a driving license and have 2 years driving experience, it is not essential to work with us.

Placements

We welcome enthusiastic students who are seeking first-hand experience within a supportive and professional care environment, and we are pleased to offer work placement opportunities at The Next Step Trust.

Volunteer

As a small charity with ambitious goals, Next Step Trust is always looking for passionate individuals to join us as volunteers.

There are opportunities to support a wide range of activities, both at our centres and off-site, all of which require careful supervision. Whatever your skills or the amount of time you can offer, we are confident that we can make the most of your support.
