Respite

A supportive and relaxing environment

You’re very welcome

Our Respite Bungalow operates as an overnight facility, providing short stays in a welcoming and supportive environment.

This facility complements the high-quality care delivered through our community-based day services and extends the same standard of care into a homely setting, where familiar staff ensure that each individual’s needs are consistently met.

Home comforts and well-being

The bungalow offers our Next Steppers a true “home away from home”—a comfortable and welcoming space where they can relax, unwind, have fun, and enjoy new experiences—almost like a holiday tailored just for them—while giving their families the opportunity to rest and recharge.

Adapted for safety and comfort

The property is a purpose-adapted bungalow offering four bedroom accommodation. It features full wheelchair access, ceiling track hoists, and facilities carefully designed to meet individual needs, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable stay.

Spacious and tranquil

Despite its close proximity to the busy Halifax town centre, the setting offers a quiet and tranquil environment. The surrounding gardens provide a rich sensory experience, with opportunities for those we support to engage in horticultural activities, enjoy the outdoors, and benefit from the calm and beauty of Southowram.

IMPACT REPORT - Respite

How are we doing?

Our Respite Service Rating

This CQC rating was previously awarded for our Respite Service when it operated from our Ripponden location. In 2025, the service relocated to a new property in Southowram and is registered as The Next Step Trust - Respite, Marsh Meadows, 31 Marsh Lane, HX3 9UF.

The service has been assessed and registered by CQC at the new location but is awaiting an inspection visit. However, we continue to complete and submit the annual Provider Information Return (PIR) to ensure the CQC remains informed about the quality, safety, and effectiveness of the service we provide.

  • "Since attending Next Step, Philip’s social skills have greatly improved and he has gained many friends. Staff help him to learn independent life skills such as food shopping, cooking, washing up, tidying etc. We are really delighted with his progress.

    Jasmin & Ian - PARENTS

  • Currently, our Respite facility is open to Next Steppers who attend our Day Service. We have taken referrals from young people leaving Linden Brook at 18 and would consider these in the future.

If you attend our Day Service and would like to be added to the waiting list, please contact our Respite Lead, Nicky Weaver.

  • Our Respite bungalow is located in Southowram, Halifax.
